On Wednesday, 16 September, Bolivia and Paraguay formalized the final delineation of their common border in La Paz, putting an end to 88 years of negotiations initiated after the Chaco War (1932-1935).
The border was approximately 755 kilometres long and was the subject of a demarcation process initiated after the peace treaty signed in 1938. The last 3.5-kilometre stretch along the Rio Negro was demarcated after three days of work by the Joint Commission of the two countries, in particular on the basis of geographical data collected by drones and official documents.
Both Governments present this agreement as a historic step towards strengthening bilateral confidence and cooperation. Paraguay emphasizes that, with this complete delimitation, the two countries become the only South American States with fully defined borders.
