Washington, February 5, 2026.- Meeting on February 2, 2026, during a consultative meeting on the situation in Haiti, the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, CARICOM Ministers, the Group of Eminent Persons (EGP), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (UNIH), as well as Canada and the United States renewed their support for the Haitian people as they approach a decisive stage in the political transition.

In a note issued on 4 February 2026, participants stressed the urgency of restoring credible and functional governance, restoring public security and creating the necessary conditions for free, fair and credible national elections. In their view, these requirements are essential to ensure the stability of the country, the legitimacy of institutions and the continued political, technical and financial support of the international community.

This position comes at a time when the mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council expires on 7 February 2026, in a context of deep crisis marked by persistent insecurity, the deterioration of public services and the increased vulnerability of a large part of the population.

The signatories recall that, for several years, Haitian citizens have been deprived of their constitutional right to choose their leaders, a situation that has greatly contributed to political and institutional instability. They also highlight the devastating impact of armed gangs, whose activities undermine the security, economy and future prospects of the country.

The stabilization of the security environment is thus presented as a priority condition for the holding of elections, the distribution of humanitarian aid and the resumption of reconstruction efforts. In this regard, the participants call for the rapid implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2793, including the effective deployment of the Gang Repression Force (GRF) to assist national security forces in fighting armed groups.

While reaffirming their commitment to Haiti, international partners stress that a lasting solution to the current crisis can only be Haitian. They urge all national actors to focus on dialogue and public interest in order to ensure peace, stability and well-being.
